Google IO 2019 is almost upon us. If you didn’t already know, Google IO or Google I/O is an annual developer conference held by Google in Mountain View. Over the years, Google IO has been the source of all the goodies related to what Google is working on.
From new devices to new operating systems to new ways to capture photos, Google IO is an event that should not be missed out by any Geek. Google IO will take place from the 7th of May to the 9th of May 2019. So, what can we expect from Google IO 2019?
Another letter in the Alphabet
Something that has become synonymous with Google IO is of course Android. Each year, we’ve seen a new version of the Android operating system being released. Thus far, the latest iteration, Android Q has been made available to Google Pixel devices as a beta. While we do not know what the Q will stand for, we do know some of the unique features that Android Q will boast.
For example, Android Q will support different accent colors. This means you could match your phone interface with your clothes to give off that extra funky look. In addition, there’s easy Wi-Fi sharing via QR codes, a secret desktop mode, and a native screen recorder.
The interesting thing is that both the Wi-Fi sharing and native screen recorder features are already available in devices from Xiaomi and Huawei. It’s also available in Custom ROMs for devices such as OnePlus and even Samsung.
A New Way to Game
Another thing that is hyped is Google entry into the Cloud gaming scene. In case you missed it, Google recently announced Stadia, their own cloud-based gaming platform. Stadia is compatible with Chromecast Ultra and even compatible with Google Chrome on desktop.
You can even use Stadia on your tablet and smartphone as well. Something that really got everyone going was how Stadia allowed you to switch from one device to another within just a few seconds. So you can literally be gaming on the go.
To make things easier, Stadia also announced their own Controller. It’s interesting to see how Google aims to give gamers a Cloud gaming experience and what challenges they would face.

A New Pixel Arrives: Meet the Google Pixel 3a
Google’s flagship Pixel devices have not exactly been wallet friendly. Google initially had this well put with the Nexus lineup. It offered flagship level features for an affordable price. That was sort of done away with when Google launched the Pixel lineup of devices.
Now it appears that Google is planning to offer simplified and hopefully more affordable devices with the Google Pixel 3a. Thus far, official-looking renders of the device have popped up all over the internet. If the rumors are true, the Google Pixel 3a will pack a Snapdragon 670 chip, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
In terms of pricing, again, nothing is concrete. Initial rumors suggest a price of around $400-$500. This is almost $300 less than the Pixel 3.
That’s not all for Google IO 2019
These are just a few of the announcements we’re expecting from Google IO 2019. Other announcements include improvements to Android Auto, Google Assistant, Android Permissions, and a new Depth format called Dynamic Depth Format. According to Google, the new format will allow third-party apps to tweak depth data to create “specialized blurs and bokeh effects”.
